VMSAcademy is the only independent, university-based centre dedicated to training and education on Vessel Monitoring Systems. It's first centre was started in Australia and runs in conjunction with the Australian National Centre for Ocean Research and Security (ANCORS). Centres in the Middle East and UK will shortly be announced.
VMSAcademy offer specialist professional short courses in Vessel Monitoring Systems (VMS), technology, policy and law. The principle lecturers for the courses are drawn from a range of specialist Visiting Fellows, as well as a number of other guest lecturers from relevant Government departments and agencies.
VMSAcademy Technology Review provides Regional Fisheries Management Organisation (RFMOs) and other agencies with an overview of the latest technical developments and products. We will also be maintaining a database of operational VMS systems from around the world and also keep an updated database of current and future Tenders.
In conducting its research activities the VMSAcademy seeks to provide real-world outcomes that will be of assistance to decision makers and that will enhance the quality of policy-making
The VMSAcademy faculty team combines experience and expertise from a range of disciplines including satellite systems, IT, law, maritime security, environmental science, marine biology, fisheries management and geosciences.
